What is Love?
What is love – this sticky lipstick bliss left on the tongue and just as quickly gone?
What is love – a heartfelt embrace first made face to face and back to back undone?
Is this all there is? Is there nothing more? What is it for? What is love?
What is love – the backhanded kiss that hopes you’ll understand why things had to end today?
What is love – what they’ve left behind to taunt and to remind you just how unkind they were?
Is this all there is? Is there nothing more? What is it for? What is love?
What is love – a knowing look shows concern while trying not to alarm with a pat upon the arm?
What is love – the dead stare from once beguiling eyes as life’s love lost never even cries?
Is that all there is? Is there nothing more? What is it all for? What is love?
What is love – a foundling found alone stolen from a mother’s love by another lover?
What is love – a chimera chased on life’s quicksilver case before death’s fatal embrace?
Is that is all there is? Is there nothing more? What is it all for? What is love?
What is love – the shimmering sea seen in the mind’s eye where forever there is laughter?
What is love – the frost glossed on friendships’ pearl misted in life’s happily- ever-after ?
I look back and darkly see there was always more to love than first appeared to be.
