through to second round….

On Monday Andy Murray overtook Fred Perry as the Briton who has won most matches in Grand slam tennis Murray has now won 107 matches in a grand slam compared to Perry’s 106 games and Tim Henman’s total of 96.

Raffa Nadal went out in a surprise loss to Steve darcis who himself withdrew from the Championship with a shoulder injury. Nadal arrived in Wimbledon with his eighth french title in the bag. The three time former Wimbledon champion’s first round loss is something of a blow to his trajectory of recovery from his prolonged injury. All the talk is of whether fro the future Nadal should simply cut Wimbledon from his schedule but it’s most likely only speculative hot gossip.

Nevertheless Nadal’s early exit clears  the path for Murray who now potentially will face Federer in the quarter finals.  Murray meets Taipei’s Yen-Hsun Lu today. Murray was famously defeated by Lu in the Beijing Olympics.
