News hot from Vatican……
Pope Francis has made a small change to the Roman missal by inserting the name of St Joseph into all of the canons or anaphora used in the Mass. This follows the precedent set by Pope John XXIII who inserted the name of St Joseph – the husband of Mary – into the Roman Canon in the old missal in 1962. It was a change that survived Pope Paul VI’s new missal in 1969.
I assume it will need the approval of the Conference of English Bishops so I will be interested to see (hear I guess) when it is first used.
The phrase approved in English is: with the most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph, her Spouse, with the blessed Apostles etc.
I know this will please my mum. Creena had a very special devotion to St Joseph and once won a prize for a floral display honouring him of which she was very proud.
